British Navy Officer’s Sword

A British Naval Officer’s sword, made by John Prosser, London, 1827. Curved pipe-back blade, length 76cm. The blade features the maker’s mark and rich decorations that have faded with corrosion and cleaning. Left side with stamped “P” under crown, decorated ancor and crown. Right side “Prosser Maker to the King and the Lord High Admiral London”, and coat of arms.
Wooden grip covered with shark skin and wound with brass wire. Guilded hilt, the body-side of which can be folded away for more comfortable carrying. The right side features the Royal Navy’s coat of arms. Brown leather scabbard with gold-plated brass mounts featuring the inscription “Prosser Maker to the King and H.R.H the Lord High Admiral London”.
